A Childhood Memory

I have always been fascinated by clothes, and fashion has been in my blood. Everyone in my family loves to dress up and we are a family of shopaholics. However, even as a kid, I always knew I wanted to be part of this world; not because of the glamour or the fame that comes with it but because I was always obsessed with clothes.

As a kid, my father would usually bring irresistibly cute outfits for me and my sister and I’d be the first one to get the door, go through his office bag looking for all that he bought for us and get the better dresses, for which my sister used to hate me BTW. This only happened the times when our parents weren’t buying matching outfits for us. Yes! My elder sister and I have worn matching OOTDs as kids; not just a matching skirt or a matching top but an entire outfit that matches.

Anyway, my childhood was filled with such vintage outfits, the high waist denim shorts, denim on denim look with canvas shoes, backless dresses, polka dot skirts, sleeveless tops, flared jeans and the most stylish vintage hats I wish I had NOW! The best moments were when my family and I would go to a grand event such as a wedding and I’d always be excited to go shopping or to dress up. While kids would have really tiny clothes that were made mostly for comfort while making them look all dolled-up, the clothes in the women’s section grabbed my attention more than anything in the world.

While growing up, I would always wait to just reach that age when I could fit into all those gorgeous clothes that I always saw my cousin sisters wear on weddings, reception and birthdays. I used to try my mom’s clothes that were way way bigger than my size and fell on the ground in a way that I’d fall every time I’d take a step forward. I would try her heels, make-up and even though I had a pixie haircut, I’d manage to do something or the other with my short hair, all behind her back.

Of all the apparels, it was the Indian/ethnic wear that grabbed my attention the most. It wasn’t just the fact that those expensive lehengas, heavy suits and beautiful net dupattas were kept as a treasure by the ladies to be worn only and only on special occasions  and was otherwise not to be touched at all, but also the time it took to just observe the art on them, let alone make it. The golden or silver embellishment, the carefully detailed embroidery, the see through net fabric of the dupatta that made your lehenga shine and added just the perfect colour tones to the outfit, the different border designs, the specific jewellery that would go specific outfits, the different blouse back designs, the heavy vintage sling bags or clutches and then, the heels that looked extremely uncomfortable to walk in but all the ladies would rather bear the discomfort than not look their fabulous self.

My inspiration for this post came from this very beautiful childhood memory of always wanting to grow up and be surrounded by heavy and gorgeous ethnic wear outfits and have  a wardrobe that everyone would die to have a look at. The lehenga in this shoot adds just the right amount of western touch to this otherwise ethnic lehenga. The pink net dupatta goes perfectly with the golden colour tone of the outfit and adds the right kind of “blush” to it just like I used to imagine myself wearing as a kid. Shooting for the blog post did make my childhood dream come true.

I have paired this outfit, designed by —- up with minimal dual tone sunflower shaped jhumka and added a bindi for the perfect Indian touch, with a simple make-up and bit of blush on my face.

Of Prints & Patterns

Hey, beauties!

I have this habit of going through my old stuff, ditching my new apparels for some time and trying out the out-dated ones in a more modern way. When we were kids, my dad would always get us variety of new clothes and what was hilarious was that he wouldn’t just shop for us but also, for the future us. At that time, we had trunks full of clothes that didn’t fit us, that my sister and I planned to save for our “future” self. Funny, I know! However, it’s a lot like shopping online for yourself and still getting surprised when your order arrives or hiding few bucks in a winter jacket just so you find the same money next winter. A gift for you by you. I’m still fascinated with the idea and yes, I continue to do so even now.

While going through the same collection that I had saved when I was somewhere around the age of 12, I found this gorgeous green long skirt with the pattern you can completely get lost in for a while. I rarely wear skirts because I find them restrictive and difficult to travel in but this one, I couldn’t take off when I tried it.

My childhood memory of trying this skirt when I couldn’t fit into it and dying to grow up just so that I could fit in it is where my inspiration for this post came from. Hence, I decided to create an outfit that is vintage yet bohemian and something you can definitely wear to college.

In the outfit, I’m wearing a see-through knot crop top, white canvas shoes, a gemstone necklace as a waist belt (kamar-bandh), oxidized silver chandbalis and of course, the skirt from the past.

A fashion tip to keep in mind would be if you are not very experimental with your outfits, then pairing the apparel that has a very strong pattern with something plain would be better. In this outfit, I’ve paired my skirt with a plain top. Had I gone for something else which had patterns too, the outfit would have appeared too strong. I like keeping my outfits simple and sticking to just one statement apparel/accessory. Here, that would be my skirt.

Bold & Beautiful: Stealing From My Parents’ Wardrobe

“I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls.I believe that tomorrow is another day & I believe in miracles.”

Hello, lovelies!

Posting after a month (apologies) and bringing to you something great, something new, something amazing!

Colleges are reopening soon and it is time to style everything that you’ve bought during the break. So, I decided to come up with a series of bohemian/Indo-western/not-so-ordinary outfit ideas that will help you stand out of the crowd when you go out. This is the time to use all your creativity and do that one thing we all never thought we, as adults, would never do and that is- steal from our parents’ wardrobe. Yes, you read it right!

For those short on money to spend on shopping, this could be a life saving blog series. I came up with multiple ways to style everything that I could find in my parents’ wardrobe and that included more than my dad’s loose tees and mom’s dupatta. I will show you how to rock those “old-fashioned” apparels in ways you didn’t think you could. 😉

The first outfit in this series is something I always wanted to wear but couldn’t come up with more ideas to style i.e. my mom’s salwar.

In this outfit, I wore a green salwar with a Broshne top from Stalk Buy Love and a must-have denim jacket. For accessories, I decided to go for these very trendy chandbalis with some beautiful stone work and a sling bag with pom pom strap and beautiful embroirdery work. For footwear, I chose the most basic and most stylish, a pair of white trainers that I recently ordered from Koovs.com.

Pendant Necklace collection: A post dedicated to all the shopaholics

“Pendant Necklace” Collection on Instagram

“I could give up shopping but I’m not a quitter.”

Hello, lovelies!

A true shopaholic knows how important it is to keep updating your wardrobe with everything that pleases the eyes and soothes the heart with a warmth of spending money on something that will stay with you as long as you want it to.

Like Sophie Kinsella said in “Confessions of a Shopaholic“, “A man will never love you or treat you as well as a store. If a man doesn’t fit, you can’t exchange him seven days later for a gorgeous cashmere sweater. And a store always smells good. A store can awaken a lust for things you never even knew you needed.” Well, she was right on point, ladies!

Same way, one of the reasons why we shopaholics shop is because we want to feel better about the world and about ourselves. Boost up that confidence level a bit, you see! And if you are a shopaholic, I want you to know that it is okay to shop and know that at times, materials give us more happiness than people. However, they cannot replace them.

People would say all shopaholics are materialistic. Hearing someone say that about you seems very negative, doesn’t it? Because that statement implies that only things give us happiness but only “things” do not. That is a lot like saying, people would easily forgive you for something if your apology comes with few good chocolates or gifts.

Anyway, I was saying there that is not true. There are a lot of other things in life that touch our materialistic heart like good times spent with friends, reading, coffee, travelling and whatever the hell it is that a person likes to do.

Now coming back to the topic…

My blog has always talked about a lot of trends in apparels and footwear but not much about accessories as such. Hence, I decided to dedicate this entire post to all the accessories lovers out there by introducing my new collection of “Pendant Necklaces”.

I’ve come up with few collections recently on my Instagram store. I’ll be posting about another one soon on the blog.

For those of you who do not follow me on Instagram, @SimplyGorgeous002 is my e-store on Instagram where I sell accessories and few other stuff that are both trending and very affordable. The store is mainly for all the school and college going students who can purchase accessories that are not available anywhere near them at a very pocket friendly price.

I keep introducing new collections with special offers like discounts, free gifts, buy 1 get 1 schemes and give special discounts to my regular customers as well. 🙂

So, here are the pictures of the collection that is starting from 99 INR only.

Symmetry Of Fashion

“Fashion is about something that comes from within you.”

Hello, girls!

I’m posting an article that I thought I had posted long back but then, I found it in the unpublished folder in my laptop.

When I did this shoot, I was very excited to talk about the trend of geometric accessories and symmetry in fashion that has been trending now for a while and I wanted this post to be a Choker top DIY but unfortunately, not only did I forget to post this article on time but that day, I also lost the choker that belonged to this outfit. So before you head over to the pictures, I wanted you to know that this tube top was actually a collar shirt before and I cut it and stitched it to make it look like this, except my choker was a collar choker.

For the theme of geometric fashion, I decided to wear something that shows different shapes and patterns in one outfit. So, the first thing that I picked up was this check shirt/tube top that I’ve worn as a knot crop. I paired it up with my culottes from Koovs. The accessories I’m wearing add to the theme like geometric earrings and marble bracelet in the shape of circle and triangle. I also wore the same bracelet as an arm cuff (Fashion tip). Another way to wear your accessories in a different manner. I decided to add a layer to the outfit and paired up my formal black padded shouldered blazer with it, giving a better shape to the final outfit.

For footwear, I decided to go for heeled white sneakers because the culottes make petite girls (like me) look even shorter. I couldn’t even get them shorter because otherwise, I’d have lost the beautiful frayed hem. So, I’d suggest the petite girls out there to also add some sort of heel if you’re planning to go for culottes. 🙂

So, let’s see how the outfit looks!

Basic-ally Breathtaking

“The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.”

Hello, everyone!

I’m back with another post. I know it’s been really long since I posted anything on the blog because I have been so occupied with a lot of things lately. The last month has been like a roller coaster of events. I hope your year has been eventful too.

This article features two of my basic shirts that I have paired differently, showing how basic apparels can be made breathtaking using the mentioned styling tips.

In the first outfit, I’m wearing a shirt as a shirt dress with my denim jacket, plain black socks and a bohemian necklace as a belt. While wearing a dress that doesn’t fit your body properly or is of a bigger size, don’t hesitate to go for belts.

For those of you girls who are into chunky accessories or have a nice collection of necklaces you feel you never get a chance to wear, this is your chance to be little experimental and show off your accessory collection. I loved how the necklace didn’t look out of place and was easy to carry around and adjust as well.

Styling shirt dresses_bohemian_bootsStyling shirt dresses_bohemian_bootsStyling shirt dresses_bohemian_bootsStyling shirt dresses_bohemian_bootsStyling shirt dresses_bohemian_bootsStyling shirt dresses_bohemian_bootsStyling shirt dresses_bohemian_boots

In the second outfit, I’m wearing a shirt dress with a black belt, socks, boots and denim jacket. I’ve kept the first few buttons open to show my bralette’s design. Feel free to go for lace bralettes, chokers and quotation pendants. This shoot was done in the month of January when the weather was cold, hence the boots with the socks. My intention was to show how, instead of wearing thigh high boots with dresses and shorts on a daily basis which might look little over board, you can go for thigh high or normal length socks with your daily-wear boots or block/platform heels and save the money you’d have otherwise spent on the boots that you’d wear just once or twice in a year. But well, I guess it’s a little late for that fashion tip. 😛

I hope you liked the outfit and found the content useful.

Coffee Bean & Ginger Hair Stimulating Shampoo, Soy Protein Bodifying Hair serum and a lip balm by Tvakhindia.com

Hair & Lip Care With Tvakh Products

Hello, lovelies!

Recently I got few goodies from Tvakh, The Natural Skin Suit. I used their products and liked them so much that I decided to write a review. I got a Coffee Bean & Ginger Hair Stimulating Shampoo, Soy Protein Bodifying Hair serum and a lip balm.

Coffee Bean & Ginger Hair Stimulating Shampoo, Soy Protein Bodifying Hair serum and a lip balm by Tvakhindia.com

About the products:

With the Caffeine action this product aids in microcirculation of blood vessels, giving limp hair a lift. 6-Gingerol, from fresh Ginger provides Anti-Dandruff and scalp soothing properties.

The shampoo’s packaging is of great quality and there are no chances of the bottle leaking as it comes with a thin steel sheet packing around the tip. The price is reasonable and quantity, enough to last for more than two months. The consistency of the shampoo is neither too thick, nor too runny but perfect and when applied to the roots, it creates enough froth to massage the shampoo within the roots. Hence, very less quantity is required.

Even the consistency of the hair serum is perfect. Very little quanity is enough to make your hair silky. After using the shampoo and the hair serum that came with it, my hair looked really silky and felt very light. They were easy to manage and comb. It’s a must buy for those girls who have frizzy hair. Even my mom and sister used them and loved how these hair products worked on their hair.

Coming to the lip care by Tvakh, I absolutely love it. Even though it doesn’t stay on the lips for very long  but the product is really good for daily use. It came with a hint of either haldi or some other yellow powder on the top which, after I applied it on my lips, gave a shine to them.

Since all the products, including the lip care, are free of chemicals, I use this lip care as a highlighter which is also the reason why my face has that shine in the pictures. A great make up tip for all the make up lovers out there, you can use any (herbal, suggested) lip care as a highlighter if it shines a bit for daily use. It will do no harm to your skin.

Coffee Bean & Ginger Hair Stimulating Shampoo, Soy Protein Bodifying Hair serum and a lip balm by Tvakhindia.com

Since the consistency of this one was not too thick, it looked perfect on my skin, not at all sticky. You can see how it shines on my lips and cheeks in the pictures.

The good thing about these products is that they did not have any chemicals in them so there is no side effect. The products by Tvakh can be used for long term too.

I would suggest these products to anyone who has:

  • Dry hair
  • Frizzy hair
  • Not into chemical products/liked herbal products
  • Wants affordable but good quality product
  • Wants to increase their hair length

You can get these products on their website: www.tvakhindia.com

Thank you Tvakh for sending over these goodies. I really loved them. I hope you found this review helpful. If you did, don’t forget to share it with your family and friends.

With love,

Simran Bharti
