Bold & Beautiful: Stealing From My Parents’ Wardrobe

“I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls.I believe that tomorrow is another day & I believe in miracles.”

Hello, lovelies!

Posting after a month (apologies) and bringing to you something great, something new, something amazing!

Colleges are reopening soon and it is time to style everything that you’ve bought during the break. So, I decided to come up with a series of bohemian/Indo-western/not-so-ordinary outfit ideas that will help you stand out of the crowd when you go out. This is the time to use all your creativity and do that one thing we all never thought we, as adults, would never do and that is- steal from our parents’ wardrobe. Yes, you read it right!

For those short on money to spend on shopping, this could be a life saving blog series. I came up with multiple ways to style everything that I could find in my parents’ wardrobe and that included more than my dad’s loose tees and mom’s dupatta. I will show you how to rock those “old-fashioned” apparels in ways you didn’t think you could. 😉

The first outfit in this series is something I always wanted to wear but couldn’t come up with more ideas to style i.e. my mom’s salwar.

In this outfit, I wore a green salwar with a Broshne top from Stalk Buy Love and a must-have denim jacket. For accessories, I decided to go for these very trendy chandbalis with some beautiful stone work and a sling bag with pom pom strap and beautiful embroirdery work. For footwear, I chose the most basic and most stylish, a pair of white trainers that I recently ordered from Koovs.com.

Pendant Necklace collection: A post dedicated to all the shopaholics

“Pendant Necklace” Collection on Instagram

“I could give up shopping but I’m not a quitter.”

Hello, lovelies!

A true shopaholic knows how important it is to keep updating your wardrobe with everything that pleases the eyes and soothes the heart with a warmth of spending money on something that will stay with you as long as you want it to.

Like Sophie Kinsella said in “Confessions of a Shopaholic“, “A man will never love you or treat you as well as a store. If a man doesn’t fit, you can’t exchange him seven days later for a gorgeous cashmere sweater. And a store always smells good. A store can awaken a lust for things you never even knew you needed.” Well, she was right on point, ladies!

Same way, one of the reasons why we shopaholics shop is because we want to feel better about the world and about ourselves. Boost up that confidence level a bit, you see! And if you are a shopaholic, I want you to know that it is okay to shop and know that at times, materials give us more happiness than people. However, they cannot replace them.

People would say all shopaholics are materialistic. Hearing someone say that about you seems very negative, doesn’t it? Because that statement implies that only things give us happiness but only “things” do not. That is a lot like saying, people would easily forgive you for something if your apology comes with few good chocolates or gifts.

Anyway, I was saying there that is not true. There are a lot of other things in life that touch our materialistic heart like good times spent with friends, reading, coffee, travelling and whatever the hell it is that a person likes to do.

Now coming back to the topic…

My blog has always talked about a lot of trends in apparels and footwear but not much about accessories as such. Hence, I decided to dedicate this entire post to all the accessories lovers out there by introducing my new collection of “Pendant Necklaces”.

I’ve come up with few collections recently on my Instagram store. I’ll be posting about another one soon on the blog.

For those of you who do not follow me on Instagram, @SimplyGorgeous002 is my e-store on Instagram where I sell accessories and few other stuff that are both trending and very affordable. The store is mainly for all the school and college going students who can purchase accessories that are not available anywhere near them at a very pocket friendly price.

I keep introducing new collections with special offers like discounts, free gifts, buy 1 get 1 schemes and give special discounts to my regular customers as well. 🙂

So, here are the pictures of the collection that is starting from 99 INR only.

4 Last Minute Indo-Western Diwali Outfits

Hello girls!

I was so busy planning for some amazing blog posts (that I’ll be posting later) and occupied with my college work that I had completely forgotten to do a Diwali blog post. So, I went through my wardrobe and found this really elegant lehenga of my mom that she had bought after her marriage and then, decided to use that for creating different looks. This is a very old lehenga and I have used all that there is in a lehenga to create three unique Indo-Western looks for the last minute ladies and yes, since the shoot was next day, these outfits are actually last minute. I have also used an ethnic long skirt that was lying there in my wardrobe for years and created a bohemian look for those ladies who do not have any lehenga to create a last minute outfit.

Let’s have a look at the outfits:

Look 1: Wear any long skirt with a blazer & create a bohemian look

I don’t wear long skirts a lot. I found it difficult to even pair this skirt up with a top because I’m not into tank tops and that’s what usually girls wear skirts with. A tank top or tee, a scarf that goes with the skirt and flats. But when you are dressing up for some festival, you dress up properly and you DRESS UP! That being the reason why I added a blazer in this look and the chunky bohemian and Turkish jewelry. You should definitely go for a heavy statement necklace if you want to recreate this look and create your own last minute Indo-western Diwali outfit. 😉

Outfit Details:

  • Bohemian coin necklace from amazon.in
  • Printed Long Skirt
  • Black Blazer by Only
  • Plain Silver bangles bought for Rs 100 from Sarojini Nagar, Delhi
  • Silver Jhumkas for Rs 100 from Sarojini Nagar, Delhi
  • Vintage Turkish Rings from my collection on Spoyl App (Account: Sale Sale Sale)

Look 2: Wearing Lehenga’s dupatta as a saree

For those of you who are very much into experimenting and wearing Ind-western look, this is a last minute outfit that you can definitely go for. Using a dupatta as a saree and draping it around your jeans to make it look like a saree. The dupatta that I used belongs to my mom’s lehenga and what I absolutely love about it is the color and fabric that it is made from. Golden jewelry looks fabulous with maroon color and especially a dark colored saree. One fashion tip that you can go for is: if the dupatta you are using is short in length, you can add two dupattas and drape them around your waist like a saree. I kept the look simple and elegant and added minimal accessories. I wore flared jeans in this outfit but you can surely go for a pair of black jeggings or leggings for a better finish.

Fashion tip: Wear the same outfit with a lace bralette for a more festive look.

  • Wired Statement Necklace (Set) from Zylph

  • Angle wings ring from amazon.in

Look 3: Add an ethnic over coat or jacket to your Western outfit

The most effortless way to create an Indo-western look is by pairing up your ethnic jacket with a black crop top, jeans and any ethnic footwear. I don’t think I need to mention any ethnic accessories because those cute things are obviously necessary to complete the ethnic look.  In this outfit, I wore my mom’s lehenga’s jacket as an ethnic jacket and to be honest, if it didn’t have the embroidered borders, it would definitely look like a plain trench coat. 😛  But it does qualify as a great last minute Diwali outfit.

Look 4: Wear any lehenga’s blouse as an ethnic crop top

This is my favorite look because of this lehenga’s blouse. The embroidery on it is just beautiful and the best thing about it is the padded shoulders which give it a look of one of those military jackets that have padded shoulders as well. This is neither too much, nor too less for a Diwali outfit. If you have something like this in your or your mom’s wardrobe, then girls, you are all set for Diwali.
